Supporting the Coast Guard’s new training community

TRACEN Birmingham-Southern officially opened June 5, 2026, at the former Birmingham-Southern College campus. Its first Leadership and Management School class graduated September 4, 2026. Coast Guard leadership, training programs and personnel are transitioning to the campus in phases. Camp Liberty welcomes members, families, visitors and organized groups seeking independently arranged accommodations and events in North Alabama.

Training & Professional Development

A Personal Connection to the Coast Guard

Camp Liberty’s commitment to supporting the U.S. Coast Guard has personal roots. Founder Joseph M. Land, Sr. began his military journey as a young U.S. Naval Sea Cadet, with early training aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Hornbeam and at Coast Guard Station Kenosha, Wisconsin. Those formative experiences helped establish a lifelong commitment to military service, leadership and the development of young people.
